Swiss Post subsidiary Asmiq on the brink of closure

The company, which offers subscription management software to publishers, apparently has no future. 25 employees could lose their jobs.

Asmiq has been offering services for magazine and newspaper publishers since 2018 - software for subscription management and customer service management. Now, at the end of the year, the subsidiary of Swiss Post is to come to an end; despite great efforts as well as solutions in demand, it is not possible for the company to offer and further develop high-quality services in the Swiss media market in a way that covers costs, the company announced. Asmiq therefore intends to cease operations at the end of 2023 and close its sites in Morges, Chur, Zurich-Altstetten and Olten.

This would mean 25 employees would lose their jobs, which Asmiq and Swiss Post greatly regret, according to the media release. As part of a consultation process, employees can make suggestions on how the planned closure could be avoided.

No positive development possible

Asmiq's goal was to strengthen newspapers and magazines with efficient subscription management - but the environment in the Swiss media market had not developed as expected. In particular, the need for a modern Swiss subscription management solution was less than expected. In addition, the market for digital subscription solutions is increasingly international and competitive pressure is high. As of the end of October 2022, Asmiq had lost two major orders, and a site analysis had finally shown that a positive economic development of the company was not possible in the current market environment.
