Fair opportunities should not be a coincidence: Rod develops platform for Helvetas

Helvetas launches a new umbrella campaign developed in collaboration with Rod Kommunikation. The theme is equal opportunities.

There is no greater coincidence than life: Where we are born determines the opportunities we have. Helvetas has been fighting the resulting inequality for over 60 years in more than 30 countries worldwide. Rod Kommunikation provided strategic support to Switzerland's largest organization for development cooperation and humanitarian aid and designed the first campaign around the newly developed core theme of equal opportunities.

In close collaboration with local photographers and partners in Mozambique, Guatemala and Nepal, three subjects were created that provide insight into the lives of three people in three continents: Madina Muhuthage in Africa, Clemencia López Cabrera in South America and Sundar Thapa in Asia. "The authentic stories show us that even today, not everyone can take clean water, an education or a voice for granted. But together we can create equal opportunities," says Stefan Stolle, who is responsible for the new campaign as a member of Helvetas' Executive Board.

A digital campaign complements the poster campaign, which will be present in the 30 largest Swiss cities in German-speaking Switzerland, French-speaking Switzerland and Ticino. An interactive banner leads to twelve individual life stories of people who were born at the same time as the users, but coincidentally somewhere else in the world - a comparison that impressively demonstrates the consequences of a lack of equal opportunities and calls for action. The current issue of the Helvetas magazine "Partnerschaft" also includes a board game that is entirely dedicated to the principle of chance. If you happen to be born a woman, you first have to sit out two rounds. There is still a long way to go before we have equal opportunities.
