Dept strengthens with US agency Basic

Just a few months after the acquisition of Hinderling Volkart, Dept is once again expanding its creative expertise and pushing further into the US market. The San Diego-based digital design agency Basic joins the agency with immediate effect.

Together with Danish agency Sorthvid and Zurich-based agency Hinderling Volkart, Basic is the third addition to the Amsterdam-headquartered agency. With this move, Dept aims to continue its growth strategy and bring together creativity, technology and data experts in integrated teams with a purely digital DNA, the agency writes in a statement.

Basic works for clients such as Google, Patagonia, Airbnb and Kentucky Fried Chicken KFC. The 120-strong team works in San Francisco, San Diego and St. Louis. For Matt Faulk, CEO of Basic, the move is logical: "In a digitally driven world, and in light of the covid pandemic, people are increasingly reliant on digital platforms. More than ever, these have the potential to change one's perception and drive discussions on cultural issues. Joining Dept significantly strengthens our positioning by bringing data and technology into the mix."
