Clooney commercial: Defeat for Nespresso in Israel
A lawsuit filed by coffee capsule manufacturer Nespresso for copyright infringement and damage to its reputation was dismissed at the last instance in Israel.
The food company Nestlé has been trying since 2016 to prevent a commercial by the Israeli coffee machine manufacturer Espresso Club, which features a double of Nespresso advertising icon George Clooney (Werbewoche.ch reported). According to Handelszeitung the high court ruled that it was a parody that was not based on the original production with the original movie star. And was therefore not a copy. The two companies compete in Israel in a nearly $2 billion coffee market.
