Ruf Lanz's new Animal in Law campaign splits the BDSM scene

The new campaign of the foundation Tier im Recht is not well received everywhere. The sadomasochistic scene apparently feels upbraided.

The five subjects created by Ruf Lanz show animals in sadomaso clothing. Underneath the saying: "No animal wants to be tortured". (Werbwoche.ch reported). How the SonntagsZeitung recently reported, the campaign led to criticism in the social media. There were reports of "fringe group bashing" on Facebook, for example.

The BDSM scene is bothered by the images - they could be misunderstood, Simona, president of IG BDSM, tells the newspaper. BDSM takes place between two adults and above all consensually. The joke of the campaign - namely, that animals pain is just never consensual inflicted - is not understood, Simona is convinced. "For us, it's really tricky, because people get stuck in their heads what many people already think: sadomaso equals animal cruelty".

Is the campaign really shitstorm-worthy? Simona says: "As so often, the Internet tempted more violent reactions than would be shown in real life." And critical votes on the current debate can definitely be heard from BDSM circles. "BDSMers are, as soon as their religion is "abused", completely humorless, do not feel taken seriously and prove this by leading pseudo-intellectual discussions instead of simply switching on common sense", expresses a "directly affected person" in the social media. On the Facebook page of Tier im Recht, the campaign even receives concrete encouragement: "I myself come from the BDSM scene and feel neither discriminated against nor misunderstood or anything else. Find also the posters Top!", so a user.
