Source designs permanent exhibition for Holcim in the Umwelt Arena

Holcim's permanent exhibition in the Umweltarena is dedicated to concrete as a building material. The result is communication in space, conceived and designed by the Source design agency, which stimulates intuitive and playful engagement with the subject.

In Spreitenbach, the various facets of concrete as a building material are shown and how the building materials group is committed to the environment by using energy-efficient plants, using alternative fuels and raw materials, and being a leader in the use of new, environmentally friendly production technologies. Visitors are provided with background knowledge about concrete as a building material and about the Group on 70 square meters, divided into three areas. The red area on the subject of sustainability shows which CO2-friendly building materials Holcim is developing and how sustainable construction can be today. The harmony of ecology, economy and responsibility is explained in green. Visitors discover animals and plants that have settled in the renaturalized areas. By means of a crank and their own use of strength, an abstract number can be turned into a concrete activity. The advantages and facts about concrete are explained in the blue section.

CO2 reduction is the topic

The tables in the room complement the information on the walls; for example, eleven concrete cubes show the variability of the building material. On another table, an illustration raises awareness of Holcim's world and environment. Rotating flaps contain relevant facts on CO2 reduction in a general sense and relate them to Holcim's measures. The creation of cement and concrete - in more or less detail depending on the level of knowledge - can be seen on a third table.
