At the end of last week, customers repeatedly bought empty racks in the stores of major distributors for fear of supply shortages. Now, Swiss grocers are jointly calling on customers to refrain from hoarding purchases.

In an advertisement, the retailers state that the country's supply is sustainable and that enough food and necessities are available for everyone. They said they were working closely with federal agencies and suppliers and would also be making even more frequent deliveries to stores to ensure racks were replenished quickly. "Hoarding purchases is absolutely unnecessary," they say.

The ad was placed by all major food retailers in Switzerland, i.e. Coop, Migros, Aldi, Lidl, Spar, Denner, Manor and Volg. The advertisement appeared on Monday in the ViewHowever, according to the Swiss Retail Federation, it will appear in other media in the coming days.

In the letter, the retailers also appeal to the solidarity of their customers: Those who buy more than necessary and make hoarding purchases may ensure that others go empty-handed. In addition, this would put undue strain on employees - in an otherwise already very challenging time. (SDA)
