SRF 3 house satirist Peter Schneider takes early retirement

For more than 30 years, he was the in-house satirist for Radio SRF 3. Now Peter Schneider has decided to take early retirement at the age of 63. His last press review will be broadcast on Friday.

The daily madness of reading the newspaper - relentlessly brought before your eyes. With the "other press review," Peter Schneider entertained Radio SRF listeners every day at 8:50 a.m. for about three decades. With a sharp tongue, he satirically commented on what was being written in the media world in his own language and unmistakable style.

"Thirty years ago, of course, I never thought that this format would last so long. After all, it has always been a rather personal reckoning with world events and how they are portrayed in the press - and later in social media," Schneider was quoted as saying in a statement from SRF. "On the other hand, it's also a format that could in principle go on forever. Looking at the press is a Sisyphean task. But that's exactly why I decided that at some point it has to be good, because there is no 'natural' end to it. But, as Camus wrote, 'You have to think of Sisyphus as a happy man.' And now as a retired one, too."

Starting Monday, Radio SRF 3 will take a daily look back at Peter Schneider's radio columns - with archive contributions, anecdotes and tributes. Peter Schneider will give his last press review on Friday. As a farewell, he will then be a guest on the talk show "Focus" with host Hannes Hug on the following Monday evening, July 12, 2021. Peter Schneider will continue to be heard on SRF 3 as the narrator in the radio crime drama "Maloney.
