Ticino: Giacomo Salvioni and 20 Minuten launch commuter newspaper
Giacomo Salvioni, publisher of the daily newspaper La Regione Ticino, is launching a free commuter newspaper for Ticino together with the 20 Minuten media group.
The new commuter newspaper, called 20 minuti, will be published for the first time on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 and will be distributed mainly via newspaper boxes, according to a press release issued on Monday. The initial circulation will be 36,000 copies.
With 20 minuti, Giacomo Salvioni and 20 Minuten want to create a new national newspaper for a young and urban Ticino readership, it is reported. In addition to a complete national and international section, the commuter newspaper will publish regional information from Ticino on a daily basis. In addition, 20 minuti will include news from sport, entertainment and the digital world as well as services such as a movie section and the local weather.

20 minuti will be published by the company 20 minuti SA, which is owned equally by Giacomo Salvioni and 20 Minuten AG. Giacomo Salvioni and Pietro Supino, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tamedia, the parent company of the 20 Minuten media group, will act as joint publishers of the new newspaper. The editorial team will comprise more than ten newly created full-time positions. In the online sector, 20 minuti is joining forces with the already well-established news platform Tio.chwhich is operated by Ticinonline. The plan is to exchange content between the commuter newspaper and the news portal.
Rocco Salvioni will be responsible for the regional marketing of 20 minuti in Lugano as Sales Manager and Managing Director of 20 minuti SA. National sales for the 20 minuti newspaper will be handled by 20 Minuten AG. In the online sector, a national advertising combination with Tio.ch, 20minuten.ch and 20minutes.ch will be established, which will also be marketed by 20 Minuten AG. If possible, the commuter newspaper will be printed in Ticino.
