Stoned at the wheel, monstrous

Driving while stoned is a stupid idea. In Canada, too. A commercial explains why.

Last year, Canada became the first leading industrialized country to legalize the cultivation and sale of cannabis. The liberal drug policy offers many advantages. It provides significant tax revenue, cuts out criminal sales, and generally gives the state more control through regulated sales channels. In Canada, however, legalization has also led to a doubling of the number of first-time users in the first three months (Source). Whether this is a longer-term trend or a brief fad caused by numerous curious people is now being closely monitored and investigated by the state.

What legalization certainly won't change is the fact that intoxicated people don't belong behind the wheel. A fact that is clear to everyone (at least in theory) when it comes to alcohol. With legal cannabis use, a little reminder probably won't hurt. The Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ), with the help of the agency Lg2, has created a spot that briefly but forcefully gets to the point that you should never get into a car stoned.
