Marcolli, a historian, entered journalism in 1990 as a freelancer for "Nordschweiz". In 1997, he became culture editor at Basler Woche. In 2000, he moved to the Basler Zeitung, where he first wrote for the weekend supplement Basler Magazin for three years and then became team leader Basel-Stadt. From 2007 to 2011, he headed the city department. Marcolli then reported for BaZ as Germany correspondent from Berlin until he moved to Herzog & de Meuron in 2014. Since March 2018, he has worked as a historian for the University of Basel, among other positions.

Patrick Marcolli replaces David Sieber (55), who took over as editor-in-chief on March 1, 2016. Sieber has further sharpened the profile of BZ both in the city and in the Basel agglomeration and, in particular, strengthened the online presence, which is reflected in rising user numbers. However, different ideas about the positioning of the BZ have now led to a change in the editor-in-chief.

The publisher and management would like to thank him for the work he has done and for his great commitment.
