Bern online portal "Capital" launched with three articles

The new Bernese online portal "Hauptstadt" published its first three articles on Monday, March 7, 2022. They revolve around the elections at the end of March in the canton of Bern, additional financial burdens for parents of autistic children and poems as a kind of burial gift.

The article about the Bernese elections is about the refusal of the incumbent members of the Bernese government to fill out the questionnaires of the online voting tool "Smartvote" before the elections this year, which became known in mid-January. The government members justified this with the principle of collegiality.

The author of the Capital-article examines the question of what this refusal says about the incumbent members of the Bernese government and what it says about the canton of Bern.

The Capital is an online magazine based on the merger of the editorial teams of Confederation and Bernese Newspaper by Tamedia last year is declining. The capital wants to contribute to maintaining media diversity in the greater Bern area and offer good local journalism, primarily in the areas of politics, society and culture.

Role models are other Swiss online platforms such as Tsueri in Zurich, Bajour in Basel and the Republic.

3400 subscriptions already sold

In recent months, the sponsoring association has successfully raised money: Around 3400 people have taken out a subscription and foundations have pledged support. This enables a start with ten people in five full-time positions.

As co-initiator Jürg Steiner said on Monday upon request, the goal of the Capital-editorial team to now publish one article every day. In principle, these are protected by a pay barrier, but according to Steiner, this was not yet functioning on Monday (sda).

The portal is online at the address capital.be to find.
