Resolution of SRG Bern Fribourg Valais against move to Zurich

SRG Bern Fribourg Valais is opposing plans to relocate the Bern radio studio to Zurich. This would marginalize Bern as a political center and studio location and damage a "flagship of political reporting", according to a resolution.

According to the SRG's plans, programs such as "Echo der Zeit", "Rendez-vous", "Heute Morgen", "Tagesgespräch", "SRF 4 News" and the news would in future be produced and broadcast in Zurich instead of Bern, writes the General Assembly of the Radio and Television Cooperative Bern-German-Fribourg-Upper Valais in the resolution adopted on Saturday.

However, the capital is the political center and also acts as a bridgehead to western Switzerland. A "holistic view of all regions" is only possible from Bern. A move would therefore not be in the spirit of a federalist Switzerland and would contradict the country's linguistic and cultural diversity.

With its "immature and politically insensitive relocation plans", the SRG has "destroyed a lot of goodwill" in recent weeks. Based on its statutes, the SRG Bern Fribourg Valais is therefore called upon to oppose the SRG's plans in order to prevent further damage. (SDA)
