Marcel Kohler is Media Manager of the Year

The industry magazine Schweizer Journalist honors Tamedia manager Marcel Kohler as "Media Manager of the Year 2015" in the run-up to the Swiss Media Congress.

"With 20 Minuten, Marcel Kohler has not only been running the economically strongest title in Switzerland for ten years. The free commuter newspaper is now also one of the most successful media brands in Europe," reads the jury's statement. This applies not only to the print market, but also to the digital business, where 20 Minuten is the innovation and market leader.

Under Kohler's leadership, 20 Minuten has also established itself as one of the very few media brands in Switzerland in three parts of the country. It also successfully made the leap to Luxembourg. Tamedia is currently working on positioning the 20 Minuten concept in Denmark under the title Metroexpress. In Germany, the implementation of 20 Minuten as an online project is currently being examined. A total of 400 employees now work for the title in the editorial and publishing departments.

Marcel Kohler, born in 1960, started in the media industry in 1982 at Schaffhauser Bock. From 1985 to 2005, he worked at the publishing house of the Neue Zürcher Zeitung. He started as a key account manager, followed by positions as sales manager, advertising manager and deputy publishing director. Among other things, he was involved in the launch of the NZZ am Sonntag. From 2006, he was responsible for the 20 Minuten media group as Managing Director. Kohler has been a member of Tamedia's Executive Board since January 2013. In this function, he is responsible for the entire 20 Minuten division in Switzerland and abroad.

The jury for the 2015 Media Manager was made up of Tobias Trevisan (entrepreneur, former management spokesman for FAZ), Marco de Stoppani (ex-NZZ publishing director), Maili Wolf (Maili Wolf Consulting, ex-Ringier and ex-Tamedia manager), Karl Vögeli (Vögeli Medienconsulting, former head of Coop Press), Johann Oberauer (journalist-publisher) and Markus Wiegand (journalist-editor-in-chief).

The award is presented annually in the context of the Swiss Media Congress to a publisher or a media manager who, through his or her activities, promotes the ground for journalism and at the same time makes an important contribution to society.
