State Council to prevent closure of printing plant

The Fribourg State Council should support the preservation of the Saint-Paul newspaper printing plant. This is the demand of the print shop's staff committee and the Syndicom trade union in a letter to the cantonal government.

All parties concerned should work together at a round table to find solutions to save the 50 jobs at risk, Syndicom announced in a communiqué on Wednesday. At the staff meeting, it was also decided to launch a petition to save the print shop and to call for a public demonstration of support. The rally is planned for March 1. At the end of January, the Saint Paul Group had announced the closure of its newspaper printing plant at the end of 2014 (Werbewoche.ch reported). She cited the loss of the most important external customer, the Freiburger Nachrichten, as the reason. In the future, the newspaper will be printed in Bern at more favorable conditions. (SDA)
