20th anniversary of the Axel Springer Prize for Young Journalists

The Axel Springer Prize for Young Journalists was awarded for the 20th time at the Axel Springer Building in Berlin. In front of 350 invited guests from the media, culture and politics, the four independent juries honored 12 entries in the categories print, television, radio and internet.

In addition, 13 outstanding achievements were commended. A total of 54,000 euros in prize money was awarded. First prizes were awarded to Alard von Kittlitz (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung) in the national print category, Katrin Blum (Stuttgarter Zeitung) in the regional print category and Gerald Drißner (Austrian magazine DATUM) in the weekly and monthly print category. In the television category Fritz Ofner (ZDF/3sat), in the radio category Tina Hüttl (Deutschlandradio Kultur) and in the internet category Michael Hauri (2470media.eu) received a first prize.

The award is presented annually around Axel Springer's birthday by the academy named after him. The prize was founded in 1991 by his heirs and Axel Springer. It is aimed at authors who were not older than 33 when their contributions were published. The call for entries for the 21st Axel Springer Prize for Young Journalists will open at the end of October 2011.
