The Digital Economy Award takes place

The award for Switzerland's digital excellence takes place. Federal Councillor Karin Keller-Sutter will give the opening speech at the Digital Economy Award as guest of honor. Maria Victoria Haas and Tanya Koenig will moderate the evening on November 11 at the Hallenstadion in Zurich.

With the opening speech by Karin Keller-Sutter at the physically taking place award ceremony he national government is underscoring the importance of digitization in Switzerland. This year, the award ceremony is the finale of Digitalswitzerland's Digitaltag.

The two presenters Maria Victoria Haas and Tanya König will lead through the evening on November 11. Haas was already involved in 2018 and 2019 as a co-host at the Digital Economy Award, König was among others already active at the Digitaltage 2020.

It is also becoming apparent that the event can actually take place on site at the Hallenstadion, as the organizers write in a statement. "If the situation continues to improve, then we are very confident," Nicolas Bürer, managing director of Digitalswitzerland, is quoted as saying in the release. "Whereby we would also be prepared for a scenario of a digital awards ceremony." The event would be held in accordance with the current regulations of the FOPH.

Extended input deadline

With more than 90 entries in the categories "Digital Innovation of the Year," "Digital Excellence Award" and "Highest Digital Quality," and more than 40 nominations for "The Next Global Hot Thing," the number of entries has increased compared to previous years, according to the statement. To that end, organizers are granting an extension of the deadline until June 30. "We want to take the momentum of the last few days with us and give the candidates a few more days to complete their submissions in peace," says Christian Hunziker, managing director of SwissICT.

The jury will select the finalists in mid-September. These will then be scrutinized again by the jury in a second step. Based on this assessment, the jury will select the winners and announce them on November 11 at the Digital Economy Award Night. In various categories, such as NextGen Hero, the general public and the hall audience also have a vote. The new category NextGen Hero, launched in 2020 in collaboration with Digitalswitzerland, will be integrated into the Digital Economy Award Gala in 2021. The submission deadline for this category is July 30, 2021.
