Swisscom wins mobile network test ahead of Sunrise and Salt

Swisscom ahead of Sunrise and Salt: According to the latest test by Umlaut and Connect, the Swiss industry leader continues to offer the best mobile network in the country. Sunrise also receives the test mark "outstanding", but has to settle for the silver medal by a narrow margin.

Salt again only achieved third place this year, but was the only provider to improve on the previous year. According to the ranking, Swisscom scored a total of 960 (previous year 974) out of a possible 1,000 points, Sunrise 955 (previous year 967) and Salt 926 (previous year 923).

The battle for the top is traditionally fought at the highest level in Switzerland, the assessment says. All three network operators have supported VoLTE (Voice over LTE) since last year and would get a lot out of this good technological basis. The success rates for calling are close to 100 percent for all three candidates in large and small cities. In the drive test in small towns, Swisscom had even reached this mark.

The candidates are also close to each other in the data measurements. Especially in larger cities, the recorded readings at Swisscom and Sunrise show a high proportion with LTE 4CA, i.e. the combination of four LTE carrier frequencies.

The results for 5G were recorded for the first time. Where the new network is already available, it was recorded in the driving and running tests, it said. Swisscom and Sunrise would offer the latest mobile generation not only in the cities, but also already to a large extent in the area - and are on a par with 5G after the tests.

Strong in international comparison

The third-placed Swiss provider Salt achieved the same score in the test as the test winner in Germany. Salt is still at the beginning with 5G - but already offers "top values" in its first 5G cells, according to the report. In Switzerland in particular, the results of the 5G measurements were "impressive" overall. The German networks in particular have improved greatly in an international comparison. (SDA)

The measurements of Umlaut and Connect in Switzerland took place from October 21 to 31, 2020.
