Bakom awards ".ch" management to Switch again
The Switch Foundation will continue to manage the ".ch" internet domain names in the future. The Federal Office of Communications has extended the contract with Switch, which expires at the end of 2021, for a further five years, as announced on Thursday.
The new agreement, which will come into force at the beginning of 2022, includes additional services to further increase the security of the ".ch" domain and to combat cybercrime more effectively, writes OFCOM. A program is to be introduced to encourage registrars - who register internet domains - and hosting providers to offer sufficient security guarantees by means of financial incentives.
Switch will also work more closely with the authorities to improve the fight against cybercrime. According to the press release, this includes measures to ensure that newly registered domain names may only be used after an identity check if fraudulent intent is suspected. (SDA)
