Balz Bruder becomes Editor-in-Chief of the Solothurner Zeitung

Balz Bruder, most recently a page editor and writer at the Luzerner Zeitung, succeeds Theo Eckert, who is retiring. As the new editor-in-chief of the Solothurner Zeitung, Bruder also takes over responsibility for the Oltner Tagblatt and the Grenchner Tagblatt.

Bruder is no stranger to AZ Medien. The 51-year-old began his journalistic career in 1991 at the Aargauer Tagblattwhere he was responsible for reporting for the cantonal capital. In 1996, Bruder took over as head of the Aarau department at the Aargauer newspaper, later the head of department for the canton of Aargau. He then advanced to deputy editor-in-chief of the AZ (Aargau/Regions) and also served as page editor for the Sunday active.

In 2009, he became a personal assistant to the head of the Department of Health and Social Affairs in the canton of Aargau, while also heading communications for Susanne Hochuli's department.

Since 2016, he has been drawing on the Lucerne Newspaper as a page maker, author and member of the editorial board. Jérôme Martinu, Editor-in-Chief Lucerne Newspapercongratulates him on his career leap: "I wish him continued journalistic bite and success. We will miss our colleague Bruder. And publisher Peter Wanner says: "We are pleased about the `homecomer`, Balz Bruder is for me the prototype of the hungry local journalist."

Bruder is expected to assume his new role on October 1, 2018. Beat Nützi, Editor-in-Chief of the Oltner Tagblatt, will report directly to him.

Eckert retires

Since May 2001, Theo Eckert has been Editor-in-Chief of the Solothurn newspaper. In economically difficult times, he sharpened the journalistic profile of the paper and, according to the press release, the 64-year-old has ensured with a great deal of personal commitment that the newspaper is perceived as an indispensable voice in Solothurn and the canton. With his column "Theo meckert," he knew how to bring current and explosive topics closer to the readers with a lot of wit.
