Kurt Pelda and Bernhard Odehnal do new research for Tages-Anzeiger

With Kurt Pelda and Berhard Odehnal, the Tages-Anzeiger was able to sign up two award-winning journalists with extensive international experience to strengthen the research department.

Kurt Pelda joins the Tages-Anzeiger on February 1, 2017. Pelda is a longtime war reporter and connoisseur of the Swiss Islamist scene. Among other things, the economist was Africa correspondent for the NZZ and most recently wrote as a freelance journalist mainly for Weltwoche. Kurt Pelda was named "Journalist of the Year" by the industry magazine Schweizer Journalist in 2014, and came third in 2016. He will continue to work as a freelancer for the SRF program "Rundschau" and international media in addition to his permanent main job for the research department of the Tages-Anzeiger.

Bernhard Odehnal has been part of the research team since January 1, 2017. He comes to Zurich from Vienna, where he had worked as a correspondent for the Tages-Anzeiger since 2004. Before that, the Slavic scholar and connoisseur of Austria and Eastern Europe worked as foreign editor at Weltwoche. Odehnal is a recipient of the Zurich Journalism Prize, among other awards.

The two book authors will be on assignment for both the Tages-Anzeiger and the SonntagsZeitung. Most recently, Iwan Städler had left the research department, rising to the position of editorial director at Tages-Anzeiger. The team, which will consist of six people in the future, will be headed by Thomas Knellwolf and will include Simone Rau, Mario Stäuble and Barnaby Skinner, in addition to the new editors.
