DAB radios also to receive support in Covid crisis

In the corona crisis, the National Council and Federal Council also want radios that broadcast exclusively via DAB+ to receive funding. The Federal Council has adopted a corresponding motion from the National Council's Committee for Transport and Telecommunications.

The motion instructs the Federal Council to set the contributions to the costs of DAB+ broadcasting for licensed and notifiable radio broadcasters at a minimum of 50% for 2021 instead of the planned 30%.

Financing should come from the radio and TV levy. If the corresponding financial leeway increases over the course of the year, the contributions should be increased to a maximum of 80%, according to the motion.

OFCOM had already announced in October that the funding shares for DAB+ broadcasting would be set at 45% for radio broadcasters financed by levies and 40% for other radio broadcasters, said Media Minister Simonetta Sommaruga in the National Council.

Due to delays in setting up distribution platforms, funds would still be available, so that Bakom would increase technology funding to 50 percent next year. This would fulfill the request. The Federal Council accepts the motion. (SDA)
