MAZ grows thanks to growing demand for education and training

The Media Training Center (MAZ) in Lucerne consolidated its strong position in the market for training and continuing education last year.

More than 1,000 media professionals attended corresponding courses, as MAZ Director Diego Yanez writes in the foreword to the 2016 annual report. The MAZ also grew last year, he says, both in journalism training and in the communications department. "We are thus making a contribution to intelligent, critical and fair journalism that is committed to truthfulness," Yanez continues to write. Given the nasty environment in the media industry, Yanez wonders if publishers will continue to invest in training. It will be the task of the MAZ to provide training in the skills that are needed today and, above all, in the future. The MAZ wants to be part of the solution to the current problems. The MAZ's income statement for the 2016 financial year closed with operating income of just under CHF 7 million (previous year: CHF 6.18 million). Below the line, an annual profit of 47,120 francs remained. This was 16 percent more than in the same period of the previous year. (SDA)
