Federal Council sees no problem in Marchand's election

The Federal Council sees no problem in the fact that the SRG Board of Directors appointed Gilles Marchand as Director General without advertising the position.

In its response to questions from the National Council, it points out that the SRG can in principle determine for itself how the election takes place. The SRG is a private company with a public service mandate, organized as an independent association, the Federal Council states. A call for tenders is neither required by law nor by the SRG's internal guidelines.

Consequently, it is up to the responsible bodies to advertise the office of the new General Manager or to fill it by appointment. Appointments are not unusual in many companies, the Federal Council points out. With Marchand's election, the SRG wants to enable a stable transition and guarantee the seamless operational management of the company, the Federal Council further writes. This is understandable and also compatible with the rules of corporate governance. Several members of the National Council had asked during Monday's question time whether the Federal Council did not find the procedure problematic and whether it was permissible at all. (SDA)
