NZZ discontinues Selekt app

The NZZ Media Group will now only operate digital products on its own technology and marketing platform. It will discontinue the NZZ Selekt app, which runs on a separate platform, at the beginning of 2017.

In May 2015, the NZZ Media Group launched the iOS app NZZ Selekt, which offers a selection of ten NZZ articles on weekdays. Now the media company has decided to stop operating the app at the beginning of 2017. Steven Neubauer, CEO of NZZ Medien explains, "A limited selection of our daily articles is not the right way to attract new reader groups." Other media brands such as the New York Times, Die Welt and NRC Handelsblad have also come to this conclusion and have discontinued their apps NYT Now, Welt Kompakt and NRC Reader. "If something doesn't work, you have to stop it in time to free up resources for something new. We have learned a lot at Selekt and have integrated new functionalities such as a voucher system into our platform," adds Steven Neubauer.

Over the past two and a half years, the NZZ Media Group has developed a scalable technology and marketing platform that it is continuously expanding. It has built new digital products such as the e-paper app or NZZ Bellevue on this platform from the very beginning. "When we launch products on our own platform, they are directly integrated into our data-driven editorial and marketing systems. This allows us to target new user groups and improve products based on user behavior," says Anita Zielina, Editor-in-Chief New Products.

Subscribers of NZZ Selekt will receive an alternative offer in due time.
