Züriost: New news portal for Zurich Oberland

The new news and service portal Züriost for the Zurich Oberland and the greater Winterthur area went live on Monday, April 4, 2016. Editorial services from the region will be largely chargeable in future.

Zol.ch, Avu.ch, Regio.ch, Glattaler.ch or Stadinews.ch were yesterday: as of today, Zürcher Oberland Medien will only be online with the new news and service portal Züriost. The website will now be operated as an independent product. This not only allows it to emancipate itself from the newspapers, but also gives it its own profile. On the new platform, the newspapers will still be available in the form of e-papers. The content of Züriost will be delivered jointly by the editorial teams at the three sites in Wetzikon, Dübendorf and Winterthur, with a core team of six editors managing the presence on the digital network.

The focus at Züriost will be placed on current news and background information on politics, society, business, culture and sports from the Zurich Oberland and the greater Winterthur area. The aim is to increase the reach of the new portal beyond the 150,000 readers who have been among the users of the previous five online sites to date. With around four million clicks per month, the "Zürcher Oberländer" site under Zol.ch has been by far the biggest regional portal in the canton of Zurich.

Compulsory payment is introduced

The launch of Züriost will also see the introduction of mandatory payment for editorial services from the region. Current daily newspaper subscribers will have access to all content. According to the press release, the cheaper digital subscription is intended to attract new customers who want to forego the paper editions and the e-paper and limit themselves to the online content alone.

New company logo

Since Monday, Zürcher Oberland Medien and its products also appear in a new uniform dress. Not only has the company logo been adapted, but the titles of the daily and weekly newspapers have also been graphically revised. The so-called heads should now make it visually recognizable that the daily newspapers Zürcher Oberländer and Anzeiger von Uster as well as the weekly papers Regio.ch, Glattaler/Volketswiler and Winterthurer Stadtanzeiger come from the same house. In addition, the Oberland musician Bligg was won over as brand ambassador for Züriost.
