Youtube channel for Switzerland

The video platform Youtube is launching an affiliate program in Switzerland next week. As the NZZ am Sonntag writes, the video service has been displaying its logo for users from Switzerland with a small CH addition for a few days.

This would increase the indications that Google will launch the partner program and its own Youtube country page for Switzerland here. The program already exists in 20 countries and allows artists, cabaret artists or amateur filmmakers to participate in Google's advertising revenue with their videos, the NZZ am Sonntag continues. Already, one million "partners" are producing under the system, which was not previously possible in Switzerland.

The South Korean rapper Psy, for example, has already achieved more than 1.2 billion clicks with his video "Gangnam Style" and the advertising placed next to it has brought in an estimated 8 million dollars, according to the NZZ. About half of this is said to have gone to the musician.

In Switzerland, too, the program is apparently attractive to companies. "The demand for branded channels among Swiss companies is high," says Thomas Hutter according to NZZ am Sonntag. As the social media consultant expects, it will be possible to customize the brand presence on paid video channels in the future. Offering content with advertising is tricky, especially for musicians. This is because the legal situation with Suisa has not been clarified, according to Mathias Menzl, Head of Digital at Joiz according to NZZ am Sonntag: "Swiss artists who are registered with the collecting society are currently not allowed to monetize their clips at all."

The launch is to take place in the next few days. The NZZ am Sonntag has learned this "from a reliable source". Google spokesman Matthias Meyer said at the request of the Sunday publication that the company does not comment on rumors. Instead, the group has invited for Tuesday to an orientation in Zurich. Topic: "Launch of a popular service".
