Winterthur Parliament gives its blessing to "House of Winterthur
The location and tourism promotion project "House of Winterthur" has cleared the hurdle: Winterthur's city parliament approved the joint marketing project on Monday evening at the second attempt.
The city council had to revise the template. The aim of the project is to unite location and tourism promotion under one roof. However, a majority of the Winterthur city council was initially not entirely clear about the strategy to be pursued by the so-called "House of Winterthur". The proposal was therefore referred back to the city council last September. On Monday evening, the parliament approved the revised performance agreement with 45 to 11 votes. Only the AL and parts of the SP were against.
The biggest points of criticism have been cleared up in the meantime. For example, the city council is to be given insight into the strategy of the "House of Winterthur". Two members of parliament will sit on the board of the association. In addition, the association promises not to get actively involved in voting campaigns. Moreover, its composition is to be neutral in terms of party politics. The service agreement will be limited to four years. The original proposal did not include a time limit. The city wants to pay the "House of Winterthur" 960,000 francs annually from 2018 to 2020. In 2021, it will then be 860,000 francs. The people will have the final say on the merger. (SDA)
