With the presentation of the highest European film award in Switzerland for the first time, the country can present itself as a lively and creative center of filmmaking in the heart of Europe. The award ceremony in December is the final event in an extensive supporting program that illustrates the diverse relations between Switzerland and the rest of Europe in the field of film. The events in the supporting program begin in spring and are aimed at both a wide audience and the Swiss film industry. For example, events such as film screenings with filmmakers and film discussions will take place in the city of Lucerne and in Central Switzerland in the run-up to the award ceremony. The detailed program is currently being planned.

Focus on European filmmaking

Swiss film festivals and film events are also paying special attention to European filmmaking this year and are focusing on the links between Switzerland and Europe with events, debates and film programs. The Cinémathèque suisse is presenting a special program with award-winning films from the history of the European Film Awards. SRG SSR will also be showing a program of Swiss and European films nominated and awarded at the European Film Awards on its channels and on the streaming platform "Play Suisse". Finally, the European Film Awards ceremony will be broadcast live across Europe in collaboration with SRG SSR.

The events in the city of Lucerne are organized by the European Film Academy in collaboration with the Swiss partners Federal Office of Culture (BAK), the city and canton of Lucerne and the media partner SRG SSR. The national supporting program is an initiative of the BAK in collaboration with Swiss Films, the Focal Foundation, the Cinémathèque suisse as well as cinemas, film festivals and film organizers throughout Switzerland.
