Swiss film score by Great Garbo nominated as one of the world's best of the year
The Baldenweg siblings have been nominated as one of six finalists for the international Music + Sound Award in the supreme discipline "best feature film score" for the film music to "Die Letzte Pointe".
A top-class jury, consisting of world-renowned composers such as Oscar winner Mychael Danna (Life of Pi, Little Miss Sunshine) and Aaron Zigman (Sex & The City, The Notebook), nominated the film music by Swiss siblings Diego, Nora & Lionel Baldenweg for the coveted Music+Sound Award among a record number of international competitors.
"Die Letzte Pointe," a comedy-drama about dementia and self-determined passing, is the first collaboration between Swiss director Rolf Lyssy (Die Schweizermacher) and the Baldenweg siblings. To counteract the heavy underlying theme of the film, they composed a light swing-jazzy film score. The film music was recorded entirely by Swiss jazz musicians. Swing legend and bandleader of the nation Pepe Lienhard was also part of the team and can be heard on the alto, tenor or baritone saxophone on various songs.
The subtle comedic drama, starring Monica Gubser, was very well received by critics as well as mass audiences. "Die Letzte Pointe" was the 2nd most successful Swiss film last year with over a hundred thousand viewers.
The Baldenwegs are particularly pleased that the film music has now been nominated for an international award: "We are surprised and very honored that our music for this Swiss arthouse film has caught the attention of such a great international jury."
Only recently Diego, Nora and Lionel Baldenweg won the Swiss Film Award (best film music) for the hit movie "Die Kleine Hexe". They are currently working on the film music for Stefan Haupt's long-awaited and elaborate feature film "Zwingli - Der Reformator", which will be released in January 2019.
