Google gives the "Translate" app more power just in time for the vacation season

Just in time for the vacation season, Google announces a comprehensive update for camera translation in the Google Translate app. With this feature, a text can be recorded with the camera and translated directly.

The app is therefore perfect for easily understanding menu cards, street signs, product descriptions and more when abroad. With the update, this feature becomes even more useful. 88 languages are now supported, including German, French and Italian.

Whereas previously it was only possible to translate into English, users can now translate into any of the more than 100 languages in Google Translate. For example, it is possible to translate from German into French or from Italian into German. Google Translate also automatically detects which language is being captured with the camera.

For the first time, Neural Machine Translation (NMT) technology is integrated with camera translation. The technology produces more accurate and natural translations by reducing translation errors by more than 55-85 percent in certain language pairs. Most languages can be downloaded, so the feature can be used without an Internet connection.

The update will be rolled out in the coming days.
