McDonald's Röhrli go for a swim

Goodbye, dear plastic tubes: McDonald's is gradually saying goodbye to the iconic but environmentally harmful straws. Virtue is saying goodbye to them in Austria with a refreshing campaign.

The fast food giant is gradually removing the resource-guzzling drinking aids from its range. In the UK and Ireland, they were already replaced by paper alternatives in September 2018, but these were then again in criticism because they could not be recycled.

In Austria, too, the cult objects with the red and yellow stripes are now history. Virtue, Vice's creative agency, is bidding them farewell with a limited-edition swimwear collection made from the now-defunct Röhrli and featuring a McDonald's-Röhrli design.

The campaign is currently running and the swimwear and shorts are being raffled off on the official McDonald's channels.

The production of the sustainably produced collection of swimsuit and swim shorts was done by the Viennese label Poleit in collaboration with Studio Furore. The photo shoot with photographer Kurt Prinz was conducted in early May at Vienna's Gänsehäufel lido, in compliance with all Corona safety rules. The campaign starts immediately on all McDonald's digital channels, in addition the swimwear will be raffled off immediately via the McDonald's corporate website as well as via raffles.
