After declines in June and July, the advertising market picked up again in August: with an increase of 7 percent, it recorded an upswing to close at 485.3 million gross Swiss francs, according to Mediafocus.
A look at the sectors shows that the financial sector, transport companies and the automotive industry recorded positive development. In contrast, the energy sector, construction, industry & furnishings and personal needs suffered reductions in the double-digit percentage range. Overall, 15 sectors increased their advertising pressure, while six sectors reported lower values than in the previous year.
The financial sector again saw a 36 percent increase in August compared to the same month last year and is also showing strength YTD (year-to-date) (+30.8 percent). This is reflected in the advertising print of 46.5 million gross francs in August 2023. The increase is even more pronounced for transit agencies, which saw a 66.8 percent increase and YTD advertising print increased by one-third. Gross spending by transit agencies was 10.2 million francs in August 2023.
The vehicle sector showed a 49.2 percent increase in August and had two products, the VW ID.3 electric and the Škoda Enyaq Sportline electric SUV lease, in the top 10.
On the other hand, there were industries that experienced a significant reduction in August: Energy experienced a drastic decline of 55.0 percent and Construction, Industrial, Institutional also reduced in August (-20.3%). Both industries are also down significantly YTD.
