Voting polls: Yes to tobacco advertising ban looms on the horizon

The media subsidy, the abolition of stamp duty on equity capital and the animal and human experimentation ban initiative would be rejected according to the latest polls on the federal votes on February 13. On the other hand, the popular initiative "Children without tobacco advertising" is likely to be approved.

According to the latest survey by Tamedia and 20 minutes 42 percent are currently in favor of the media package and 56 percent against. The proposal is very clearly supported by sympathizers of the Greens (68 percent) and the SP (71 percent). The figure for the GLP is just under 53 percent. Sympathizers of the SVP (82 percent) and the FDP (62 percent) clearly reject the proposal. According to the authors, the bill is more likely to be rejected.

In the survey conducted by the GFS Bern research institute on behalf of SRG, 49 percent voted against the package of measures at the end of January and 46 percent voted in favor. The trend in opinion formation is tending towards a "no" vote, writes the JRC.

Tobacco advertising ban with good chances

In the GFS survey in January, 63 percent of respondents opted for a Yes and 35 percent for a No to the tobacco advertising ban initiative. Currently, according to the survey by Tamedia and 20 minutes 60 percent of the electorate are in favor of the proposal. 39 percent are against the ban.

According to both polls, the proposal finds majorities everywhere. The only exceptions are the SVP and FDP sympathizers, who reject the ban. According to the authors of the Tamedia and 20 minutes-survey has a good chance of being accepted.

The authors of the GFS survey point out that the majority of the cantons could become a hurdle for the initiative. However, the chances of a "yes" vote would be better overall than the chances of a "no" vote.

The amendment to the Federal Law on Stamp Duties will be published in the Tamedia and 20Minutes-survey, 35 percent of respondents support the idea. 60 percent are against it. However, at five percent, there are still relatively many undecideds. The bill currently only has a majority among FDP sympathizers. According to the authors, the bill is likely to be rejected.

At the end of January, a majority of 53 percent of those surveyed by the JRC would have voted against the change and 39 percent in favor. 80 percent reject ban on animal experiments
