Tamedia and Ringier consider legal action against senders of political advertising

Tamedia and Ringier are considering legal action against the initiative committee of the corporate responsibility initiative. The reason: on flyers, interviews from their newspaper and magazine titles had been used illegally and misleadingly and in the respective layout and logo of the publications.

On Monday (November 9), the initiative committee for the corporate responsibility initiative reported two interviews with former Council of States member Dick Marty, which were published on October 23 in the magazine Swiss Illustrated (Ringier Axel Springer Switzerland) and on October 25 in the newspaper Le Matin Dimanche (Tamedia) have been improperly used for their own purposes, according to a joint announcement by Tamedia and Ringier on Wednesday evening.

This would falsely create the impression that the flyers originated from the Swiss Illustrated and from Le Matin Dimanche.

"Ringier and Tamedia condemn the abusive and misleading use of their content and brands for political purposes," the two media companies further wrote.

Both companies are "committed to independent and balanced quality journalism," he said. It is of paramount importance that their media titles reflect diversity of opinion and make an important contribution to shaping democratic opinion.

The lawyers of the two companies are still examining which steps to take, Nicole Bänninger, Tamedia communications manager, told the Keystone-SDA news agency on Wednesday evening. (SDA)
