Best Swiss photographers in editorial and reportage awarded

Niels Ackermann in Reportage and Beat Schweizer in Editorial are the winners of the "Swiss Photo Award - The Selection". This was announced by the international jury on Thursday in the Photobastei.

The two winners will each win prize money of 5,000 Swiss francs. Their work and the six other best works in each category will be on display in Zurich until April 24.

After a three-stage judging process with a record number of entries, it was clear to the jurors: Niels Ackermann from Conches won in the Reportage category with his work White Angel, a sensitive and atmospheric portrait story of a young woman in Slavutych, the town that emerged after the reactor disaster in Chernobyl.

Beat Schweizer wins in the Editorial category. His work on Transnistria, the little-known country located between Ukraine and Moldova, which even 25 years after the declaration of independence is not recognized by any UN member, convinces with its well-composed, calm tableaus that put our visual habits to the test and reveal a lot about this country.

The Swiss Photo Award in a new look

The Swiss Photo Award is one of the most prestigious and, with a total prize money of 30'000 Swiss francs, most highly endowed photography prizes in Switzerland. It showcases the full range of Swiss photography in advertising, fashion, editorial, reportage and art. For 18 years, it has annually selected the best works based on their high level of craftsmanship and artistry. Werbewoche is media partner of the award in the category "Advertising".

This year the award will take place for the first time in the Photobastei and reinvents itself. The awards will be presented in three stages and embedded in Professional Weeks. They transform the entire Photobastei into a house of reportage in April, art photography in June and fashion photography in September.
