Metadesign: New brand identity for New York Philharmonic

Metadesign has restaged the brand identity of the New York Philharmonic. With the start of the 2016/17 season, the most traditional orchestra in the USA presents itself with a differentiating visual identity on the occasion of its 175th anniversary.

In the joint process with those responsible for the New York Philharmonic, the aim from the outset was to convey the enthusiasm and immediacy of performances by the famous orchestra, the agency said in a statement. Furthermore, the special spirit of the city of New York as the home of the orchestra was to be clearly felt.

Decisive for the design were four qualities that make the New York Philharmonic a top orchestra in the world: Virtuosity, enthusiasm, perfection and confidence. The new wordmark reflects the dynamism and power of the ensemble's interplay, each of which results in something magnificent and accomplished.
