Youtube launches subscription for ad-free use

Google's video platform Youtube has unveiled its long-awaited subscription model for ad-free use. For $9.99 a month, "Youtube Red" customers will no longer have to watch ads before the video clips start.

After the launch in the U.S., Youtube is working on bringing the service to other countries, it explained in a blog entry on Thursday night, without naming a specific timetable. In addition, the new Youtube Music app for music videos will soon be available, containing new features such as an artist archive. This will display all of an artist's music videos. In addition, songs can also be played as audio only and in the background.

The company also combines YouTube Red with a subscription to its streaming music service Google Play Music - if you pay for one of the services, you also get the other. From the beginning of next year, "Red" customers will also be able to watch exclusively available content from YouTube channels. As before, people will still be able to use the service free of charge with promotional videos. Youtube is by far the most popular video platform on the Internet with around one billion users. The imminent launch of a subscription service has been reported for months. (SDA)
