Lion Report, Day 2: Hard day, soft wine

One almost gets the impression that a conclave is meeting in Cannes. But we are not looking for the head of the Catholic Church, but for the holiest of all advertising cases. Welcome to Day 2 of the Lion Report.

As is customary in such a venerable election, the bishops - pardon the pun - jury members were "locked" in dark rooms to evaluate the various submissions. Even if the beach beckons, our man in Cannes, Executive Creative Director Grischa Rubinick, perseveres.

White smoke. No, there are no winners yet. Only the steam from the coffee machine is rising. And the jury members will need coffee for the long day. Divided into groups of 5, they sift through, discuss and evaluate. There seems to be almost no end to the cases this year. 40,133 works were announced at the 62nd Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. A new record.

The program is tough. There are ten-minute breaks in the morning and afternoon. In between, there is an hour for lunch. In the evening, 159 cases were assessed in Grischa's group. That's pretty exhausting. But he enjoys it. Especially because he keeps discovering creative gems. And unlike at a conclave, he can go to the beach in the evening to enjoy a good glass of rosé.
