Matter Gretener Lesch: Classical Music that Moves

The Matter Gretener Lesch agency designed a VBZ streetcar for the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra.

Stunned faces in Zurich: Didn't Johann Sebastian Bach just pass by on the streetcar? Or Ludwig van Beethoven? Or Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart? Indeed: Together with Johannes Brahms, Georg Friedrich Händel, Joseph Hadyn and Maurice Ravel, the famous composers will be looking out of a VBZ Cobra streetcar for the next six months. The fact that the musical demigods are wearing modern clothes is no coincidence: "Discover classical music anew" is written in large letters on the streetcar, with which the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich is arousing curiosity about its new conductor Lionel Bringuier. The fresh impetus that he wants to bring to the tradition-steeped orchestra together with the new artistic director Ilona Schmiel is made clear not least by the interior design of the streetcar: where the staves on the outer surfaces still run horizontally as usual, the music inside breaks out of this corset and thus symbolizes the infectious joy of playing of the world-class orchestra.
