So that burnout does not occur

Anyone who works in a demanding and challenging position will reach his or her limits at some point, where he or she may function outwardly, but the subliminal effects are detrimental to health in the long term. Dr. Franziska Meuschel has developed "More Than Health," a concept that supports the development of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual resilience in people. She and her team share this knowledge at a retreat in Mallorca.

Anna Kohler: Franziska Meuschel, what does "More Than Health" stand for?

Franziska Meuschel: As the name suggests, it is about more than just health. It is about prevention and the best possible achievable health of each person. This combined with the best possible quality of life, lifestyle and attitude to life into old age. We don't promise life extension, but work with scientifically proven methods that enable the maintenance of mental and physical flexibility and resilience. Based on my 30 years of professional experience and my concept of Seasonal Medicine. (Seasonal medicine, editor's note). we have developed a concept to enable the individual to achieve holistic and sustainable treatment success.

What does that look like in practice?

We offer a complete, all-around service. This begins with an initial comprehensive health risk analysis as the basis for creating an individualized, holistic treatment plan, through to our seasonal Health Retreats and ongoing twelve-month support to actively help clients implement the plan.

So what exactly comprises these health risks?

At More Than Health, when we talk about health risks, we don't just mean genetic predispositions or obviously acquired factors like smoking or obesity, for example. "More Than Health" works specifically with the invisible, underlying factors that are just as dangerous in the long run, such as elevated stress levels, blood sugar fluctuations, borderline elevated blood pressure, lack of sleep, nutritional deficiencies, underlying digestive issues, or physical inactivity. We try to identify these on the basis of family history, as well as tests and diagnostics, but also on the basis of a comprehensive environmental analysis of each client.

What happens then?

Based on this knowledge, we create a plan - similar to a business plan - with short-, medium- and long-term goals, as well as methods to achieve them. The retreat is only a short-term intervention, which due to the intensity and unique effect of the environment then acts like a shortcut on the way to this goal. However, the goal always remains the long-term and sustainable improvement of the health as well as the quality of life of our clients.

You bundle all your knowledge together with a team of specialists in a retreat on Mallorca. Doesn't a person quickly fall back into old patterns after such a "time out"?

For this, we offer our ongoing support beyond the scope of the retreat, which is extremely important, especially after a retreat, when you get back to everyday life and the newly acquired insights have not yet become habits. This is where the More Than Health team comes in: both on retreat and in ongoing care, clients have access to the same, then already familiar, specialists who can help in various areas such as work life, stress management, relationships, nutrition, sports, sleep, addiction, or just the normal human foibles.

What else sets More Than Health Retreats apart from other medical or wellness retreats?

As the name "retreat" implies, we offer our clients not only absolute tranquility, but also exclusivity. This is achieved, among other things, by the location and history of "Es Raco D'Arta", an idyllic 5-star resort surrounded by the silence of a national park in the north of Mallorca. For the duration of the retreat, the entire resort is reserved only for our clients and their companions. The number of clients is limited to a maximum of 20 per retreat. This is to guarantee the exclusivity and the high standard of individual care.

Each client has a very individual story. Can you respond to each one?

Individuality is a fundamental part of the retreat. There is no standard diet, fasting for all or anything like that. The diet, if any, as well as the daily treatments are designed on the spot and based on the individual needs of the clients within the treatment plan.

What principle do you follow?

The "More Than Health Retreats" are embedded in the philosophy of "Seasonal Medicine". We seek to bring our clients back into harmony with the body's natural and seasonal biorhythms using low side-effect and sustainable methods. Whether it is simply a matter of planned weight loss, optimizing metabolism or digestion, improving performance or underlying illnesses, it makes no difference. My task is to find individual and feasible solutions that clients can implement in their daily lives with our support, leading to noticeably improved health and quality of life in the long term.

Two weeks is a relatively short time to get to know each of the guests including their individual history and to design a personal strategy.

You can even come for just one week. Not all people can take two weeks, especially if it starts soon - on October 5. However, a special feature of our retreats is that we always complete our initial assessments, as far as possible, before the retreat begins, so that our clients receive their individually designed treatment from day one. Since we view our retreats from the perspective of long-term treatment goals, we also generally offer ongoing follow-up support for our clients from our team as a standard feature.

You are on site with a whole team, tell me, how is that made up?

What distinguishes us most from other retreats is that we are a team of colleagues with different specialties. Together we can offer our clients a unique combination of experience, treatment approaches and therapies that, over the last ten years and in combination with the joint collaboration, has led to results in my patients that I could never have achieved on my own.

What are typical focuses for the More Than Health Retreats?

A typical focus of our retreat work is clearly the prophylaxis and treatment of burnout. Therefore, our "More Than Health Retreats" intend to develop physical, mental, emotional and spiritual resilience in our clients. This includes, among other things, the ability to remain physically and mentally healthy even under maximum pressure and in crises, to make good decisions and judgments on this basis, and to be able to successfully lead oneself and others through crises.

How is the team positioned in this respect?

This is where the qualities of my colleagues Gaylin Tudhope and Dr. Peter Gruenewald especially come into play. Gaylin Tudhope has worked as a psychotherapist for over 30 years, focusing on autonomic nervous system regeneration, life-stage therapy, and trauma work. Through the use of psychometric assessments and forensic risk analysis, she has a large repertoire for serving entrepreneurs and executives. Dr. Peter Gruenewald has been a recognized European specialist in sleep medicine for many years and also offers stress management at University College Hospital in London. He is also an expert in leadership development and adaptive resilience. His regular seminars and trainings focus on resilience development, stress management and peak performance, and leadership development.

There are still single places for the retreat in Mallorca from October 5 to 18. A stay of seven days is also possible. More info is available on the website of More Than Health or write via Mail.
