This was announced by the news agency on Thursday. Keystone-SDA is "the guarantor of basic services" with relevant and reliable content from all parts of the country, the 54-year-old Kellermüller was quoted as saying in the statement. "That's more important today than ever, and I'm pleased to be able to help lead this national institution successfully into the future together with my colleagues."

The future CEO already knows the agency: From 2014 until spring 2022, Kellermüller was a member of the Board of Directors of Keystone-SDA. The lawyer has been Secretary General of the NZZ since 2009. Before that, he was managing director of the Swiss Press Association (now the Swiss Media Association), of which he is still a member of the executive committee. He began his professional career as a radio journalist. Later, he served as a delegate for the ICRC in Africa, among other things.

New CEO considered to know the industry

"We are delighted to have found in Hanspeter Kellermüller an outstandingly qualified industry expert as the new CEO of Keystone-SDA," Chairman of the Board of Directors Ueli Eckstein is quoted as saying. He is convinced that Kellermüller will further develop the news agency in a challenging environment.

Markus Schwab will step down as head of the agency on October 1. He had headed the news agency since 2006. The past 17 years have been characterized by rapid structural change in the industry, the statement said. The challenges have been correspondingly great. Under Schwab's leadership, Keystone-SDA has developed into a modern agency.

The multimedia news agency Keystone-SDA emerged at the beginning of 2018 from the merger between the Swiss Dispatch Agency (SDA) and the Keystone picture agency. This led to a restructuring.
