Wunderman Thompson: Peter Petermann becomes Head of Strategy

Peter Petermann, who has worked in both creative and media agencies in Europe, the US and China for more than 25 years, is the new Head of Strategy at Wunderman Thompson. He succeeds Peter Schäfer, who has left the agency at his own request.

After completing his doctorate in philosophy, Petermann started his career at Scholz & Friends in Hamburg. This was followed by various positions in Germany, Amsterdam and the USA before he switched from the creative to the media agency side in 2006. First as Chief Strategy Officer of the agency group Aegis Media, now Dentsu, to accompany the transformation from a pure media agency to an integrated communications agency. Then, from 2016 to 2019, as Chief Strategy Officer of MediaCom in China, where he was responsible for content, social media and e-commerce, among other things.

After a brief stint at Düsseldorf-based media agency Wavemaker, he took a sabbatical in mid-2020 to write a book on neuroresearch and advertising effectiveness, which was published in May 2021.

He has now been in his new role as Head of Strategy and member of the extended management team at Wunderman Thompson in Zurich since September 2021. He is responsible for the agency's strategic product and aims to further advance the topic of thought leadership.
As he was also responsible for the repositioning of the agency in Switzerland at Dentsu, he already knows the local market and its requirements very well. "Wunderman Thompson integrates creativity, technology, data and strategy to generate growth for brands. In my opinion, these are exactly the skills that a contemporary agency must cover today and I look forward to contributing to its success with my expertise," Petermann was quoted as saying in a statement.

Furthermore, Petermann will continue to be an expert on China, content marketing and digital transformation as a keynote speaker or panelist at symposiums, sharing his experience.
