20 Minutes: New management for sports department and newsdesk

As of January 1, 2021, a newly formed sports department will report on the important sporting events in German-speaking Switzerland for 20 Minuten and also provide background stories. Tobias Wedermann is the head of the department. Barbara Lanz also took on her new role as Head of Newsdesk at the beginning of January.

20 minutes has separated from the sports department, which was previously run jointly with Tamedia, and set up its own sports editorial team as of January 1, 2020. The team, which will consist of nine people, will be headed by the long-serving 20 minutes-journalist Tobias Wedermann.

Wedermann started in March 2013 at 20 minutesas an intern in the Zurich department. Since then, he has worked in the Newsdesk, Community and Zurich departments. He took over the latter as Head of Department at the beginning of 2018, and since summer 2019 Tobias Wedermann has also been working as a page editor for online and print. Tobias Wedermann also has experience in the financial sector and social media.

 

Further reinforcement in the sports department

Lucas Werder has been recruited as sports and video journalist as of January 1, 2021. Previously, he worked as a video journalist in the sports department of View and as a live reporter on Blick TV. In March 2021, Sven Forster will start in the sports department. He is currently working on the newsdesk of 20 minutes. Previously, as part of his training at the Ringier School of Journalism, he worked in the news and sports department of the View He also worked as a trainee for the ZDF in New York and the Munich Evening Newspaper.

Nils Hänggi, Adrian Hunziker and Erik Hasselberg transferred from the Sports Department, which was formerly managed jointly with Tamedia, to the new Sports Department of 20 minutes. In the coming months, the team will be supplemented by two more editors and an intern.

 

Barbara Lanz appointed head of newsdesk

The management of the 20 minutes Newsdesk in Zurich has been taken over by Barbara Lanz as of January 1, 2021. She succeeds Nadine Wozny, who will be 20 minutes leaves to become editor-in-chief of Blue News to take over.

In her new role, Barbara Lanz is responsible for expanding the newsdesk following the discontinuation of Keystone-SDA and for ensuring a continuous flow of news. She also retains the rank of page editor.

Barbara Lanz has many years of experience in journalism. From 2001 to 2006, she hosted various programs on Radio Munot, before joining the commuter newspaper News joined. In 2009 she moved to the Swiss Illustratedwhere she was responsible for establishing and expanding the online presence. Most recently, Lanz, who holds a bachelor's degree in journalism and organizational communication from the ZHAW, worked for more than three years as a page editor for print and online at 20 minutes in action. She lectures on "Writing for the Web" at the MAZ in Lucerne.
