The SRG Board of Directors has thus followed the proposal of the regional board of the RSI sponsorship, the SRG announced on Friday. Timbal, who was born in Ticino, convinced the board during the nomination process with his sensitivity for the cultural dimension of Italian-speaking Switzerland and his large network.

Timbal was born in Locarno in 1977 and later worked first as a journalist for the newspaper Corriere del Ticino worked in Lugano. From 2009, he held various positions at the Locarno Film Festival. In 2017, he took over the operational management of the Luma Cultural Foundation in Arles.

He is delighted to be returning to Ticino. He could not imagine a more motivating task than to contribute to the strengthening of the public service and to lead RSI through the phase of change, the new director is quoted as saying in the press release.

Predecessor Canetta (64) will step down in the first half of the year after 40 years at RSI, including six years as its director. (SDA)
