Stephan Kurmann is the new media spokesman for Digitec Galaxus

Stephan Kurmann, previously Head of Media at Bouygues in Zurich, is moving to Switzerland's largest online retailer. The 34-year-old is joining Digitec Galaxus as media spokesman, where he will primarily be responsible for journalists from French-speaking Switzerland.

Until Monday, Stephan Kurmann was Head of Media Relations & External Communications at French building services provider Bouygues Energies & Services. Before that, the communications professional worked at Alpiq InTec, the electricity company of the city of Zurich Ewz and at the technology company Siemens as a PR, marketing and communications consultant. "I think that the future lies in online commerce and digitalization. Covid-19 made this relatively clear to us," Kurmann tells Werbewoche.ch. "I wanted to be a part of this development and that's why I applied to Digitec Galaxus - and I'm even more pleased to now be on board."

The 34-year-old also likes the fact that the online retailer's brand comes across as authentic and likeable. The Solothurn native also finds it courageous that the 70-percent Migros subsidiary is always testing things out. "This also corresponds to my motto: only when we try things out do we notice whether they work or not."

Contact person for media representatives from the French-speaking part of Switzerland

At Digitec Galaxus, Kurmann will act as media spokesman, primarily for media representatives from French-speaking Switzerland. "Of course, I will also support my colleagues in answering questions from all media professionals from German-speaking Switzerland," he explains. In addition, he will work with the team to create communication plans and the appropriate content for the target group. This is to keep Digitec Galaxus' internal and external stakeholders up to date.

The new media spokesman for the online retailer grew up not far from the Röstigraben. In Solothurn, he learned French as his first foreign language in elementary school. In addition, Kurmann was employed by a French company for the last five years, which certainly didn't hurt in terms of French. "That's why nothing should stand in the way of a lively exchange with media professionals in French-speaking Switzerland," he says.

The marketing and communications expert will start work on Tuesday in Zurich's Kreis 5. His supervisor, Tobias Billeter, Head of Corporate Communications at Digitec Galaxus, is looking forward to welcoming his newest team member: "Stephan has convinced us as a person and as a communications professional. Having a bilingual media spokesperson on board who can talk to journalists from French-speaking Switzerland at eye level is important for us as a Swiss online retailer."

Stephan Kurmann studied communications and media research at the University of Fribourg. Looking back, his career start at Siemens had the greatest impact on him: "That's where I learned the PR and marketing trade in practice." He is still in contact with his colleagues at Siemens Switzerland today.
