Bernard Maissen new Head of the Media Division at the Federal Office of Communications

Bernard Maissen from Graubünden will become the new Deputy Director of the Federal Office of Communications (OFCOM). The 57-year-old will take up the position of Head of the Media Division on May 1, 2018. Until the end of 2017, Bernard Maissen was Editor-in-Chief and member of the Executive Board of the Swiss Dispatch Agency SDA.

After beginning his journalistic career in 1987 at the Grisons Newspaper Bernard Maissen joined the SDA in 1992. Initially, he was correspondent for Graubünden and Liechtenstein before taking over as head of the domestic editorial department and later the German-language editorial department. Between 2003 and 2005, he worked for SRG as editor-in-chief of Radio Rumantsch. He then returned to SDA as Editor-in-Chief and member of the Executive Board.

From 2006 to 2015, Bernard Maissen was a member of the Program Commission of the Swiss School of Journalism (MAZ) in Lucerne. Since the beginning of 2013, he has also sat on the Federal Media Commission (FMEK). He will resign from this office at the end of April to take up his position at OFCOM.

After attending school in Graubünden, Bernard Maissen studied German, history and journalism at the University of Fribourg. He then completed several further training courses in Switzerland and abroad, particularly in the field of management. In addition to his two native languages, Romansh and German, he speaks excellent French and has a good knowledge of Italian and English.

Bernard Maissen will succeed Roberta Cattaneo, who took over as SBB's Southern Region Coordinator on January 1, 2018.
