Raffael Schuppisser appointed new deputy editor-in-chief of AZ Nordwestschweiz

Andreas Schaffner, former deputy editor-in-chief of AZ Nordwestschweiz, becomes author and head of the opinion pages. Raffael Schuppisser, currently Head of the Life and Knowledge Department, becomes the new Deputy Editor-in-Chief. Beat Schmid will also be responsible for the convergent business section.

The previous deputy editor-in-chief Andreas Schaffner has decided to pursue further education (MBA). As of July 1, he will become a writer in the convergent business section and will also be responsible for the opinion pages. The 46-year-old will remain a member of the editorial board. In 2015, he became head of economics at AZ Nordwestschweiz and deputy editor-in-chief in summer 2016. He completed his law degree in 1992.

Raffael Schuppisser, currently Head of the Life and Knowledge Department, will become Deputy Editor-in-Chief of AZ Nordwestschweiz and Head of the Metro Editorial Department as of July 1. In this capacity, he will also be the main page editor for the national section. He has headed the Life and Knowledge department since September 2013. The 34-year-old studied philosophy, German literature and linguistics at the University of Zurich.

Beat Schmid heads the editorial team of the business departments of AZ Nordwestschweiz and Schweiz am Wochenende, which recently began working convergently for both titles and for online. The department will move to a shared editorial location in the business metropolis of Zurich. The 48-year-old has been head of business at Schweiz am Sonntag and Schweiz am Wochenende respectively since 2010 and has been their deputy editor-in-chief since 2012, which he remains. He graduated from the Zurich School of Interpreting and furthered his education in corporate finance at the University of Zurich.
