Tamedia is thus expanding its internal IT competencies with the aim of supporting and driving the transformation process to a digital media company even more intensively, according to a statement.

Corporate IT with Rafael Corvalan and IT Publishing with Frédéric Ranger will report directly to Franz Bürgi. Thomas Gresch will act in an advisory capacity to Franz Bürgi in the role of CTO Digital with regard to technology and architecture and will continue to report directly to Samuel Hügli. The IT strategy defined by the company management with a focus on digitalization and process innovation will be initiated with the appointment of Franz Bürgi, with further steps in terms of organization and projects to follow in the coming months.

The 54-year-old Bürgi, an electrical engineer from ETH Zurich, has an executive MBA from the University of St. Gallen. He knows the media industry from his own experience, including as CIO of Espace Media Groupe from 1999 to 2008 and as Managing Director of Mediapulse AG for Media Research from 2015. In addition to management tasks, his strength lies in the company-wide overall management of large change projects and technical integration processes with a special focus on organization and processes, writes Tamedia.
