TagesWoche chief Christian Degen leaves

Basel's TagesWoche (TaWo) needs new management after just one year. Christian Degen is giving up his post as editor-in-chief and managing director.

Degen is ending his engagement at his own request. The reason for this is "different internal opinions about the further development of TagesWoche," it says. The board of directors will inform about Degen's successor "shortly".

Degen joined TagesWoche at the beginning of 2016. Before that, he had been editor-in-chief of the Coopzeitung. In 2014, he completed a master's degree in new media journalism at the University of Leipzig with a thesis on TagesWoche.

Under Degen, the hybrid medium was headed for the first time by an editor-in-chief and managing director in personal union. This was justified by the online-first strategy launched in 2013. The print edition, which supplements the online presence every week, continues to be published today. Degen's appointment was preceded by a roll of heads.
